The eagerly awaited Test series between India and England kicked off on Thursday at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Day 1 of the first Test saw an intense battle between bat and ball as both sides competed for an early advantage on a pitch renowned for its spin-friendly nature.

India’s spinners take center stage

Choosing to bat after winning the toss, England started their innings with a bold batting display, reaching 55 runs without losing a wicket. Nevertheless, the Indian bowlers orchestrated an impressive turnaround, spearheaded by Ravichandran Ashwin, who picked up vital wickets to halt England’s advance.

Ashwin dismissed both openers Zak Crawley (20), Ben Duckett (35) to start off his incredible bowling. He later removed Mark Wood and concluded with a 3-wicket haul while conceding 68 runs in 21 overs, including a maiden.

Like Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, too, was impressive. The left-armer first removed Ollie Pope (1) before dismissing the dangerous Joe Root (29). He later got rid of debutant Tom Hartley to finish with three wickets for 88 runs in 18 overs, including 4 maidens.
