Australia continued their supremacy over West Indies in the first Test at Adelaide Oval, securing a resounding 10-wicket win and wrapping up the match on Day 3.
Bowlers set the tone early
Starting Day 3 at 73/6 in their second innings, West Indies faced an uphill battle against Australia’s pace attack. Mitchell Starc, with a fiery opening spell, dismissed the last recognized batter, Joshua Da Silva, with a well-directed bouncer. Alzarri Joseph showed resistance, but Starc’s brilliance removed him as well. Josh Hazlewood‘s fifer and a crucial wicket by Nathan Lyon left West Indies struggling.

Shamar Joseph, a standout performer for West Indies, tried to stage a comeback with a stylish 26-run partnership with Keemar Roach. However, Lyon ended his resistance, setting Australia a modest target of 26 runs.
Australia’s swift chase, Usman Khawaja retired hurt
Australia chased down the target in just 6.4 overs, with openers unscathed. However, Usman Khawaja retired hurt after a well-directed bouncer from Joseph hit his helmet, forcing him to leave the field during the mandatory concussion check.
Captain Pat Cummins hails Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head
Winning captain Pat Cummins praised Head’s pivotal role with the bat and Hazlewood’s exceptional bowling. Notably, Head rescued Australia in their first innings with a remarkable century, helping the team post 283 in response to Windies’ 188. Similarly, Hazlewood, who took four wickets in the first innings upped the ante in the second essay and bagged five scalps to finish with figures of 9/79.
“Great Test match. It was a wicket where you always felt like one would leap and could get even a set batter out. Travis Head set it up for us, don’t think anyone else get over 50. Hazlewood was on fire, he got it done in just one spell,” said winning captain Cummins after the game.
