In a nail-biting encounter at Bengaluru’s M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Team India emerged victorious against Afghanistan in the 3rd T20I on Wednesday, sealing a 3-0 series sweep. The intense battle concluded in a dramatic second Super Over, leaving fans at the edge of their seats.

The unfolding drama

With the series already secured after consecutive wins in the first two games, the final T20I promised high-octane action. After India posted an imposing total of 212/4, Afghanistan matched the score, leading to a thrilling tie.

In the initial Super Over, both teams scored 16, setting the stage for an even more gripping second Super Over. India batted first and scored 11/2, with spinner Ravi Bishnoi ensuring victory by restricting Afghanistan to just one run in three deliveries.

Virat Kohli’s ‘Superman’ moment

The highlight of the match occurred during Afghanistan’s innings when Virat Kohli, known for his exceptional fielding skills, pulled off a ‘Superman’ effort in the 17th over. Attempting a big shot, Karim Janat aimed for a certain six, but Kohli leaped, almost completing a one-handed catch. In an extraordinary display of athleticism, Kohli flicked the ball into play before touching the boundary ropes, saving crucial runs for the team.

Kohli’s fielding masterclass

Notably, Kohli didn’t have a good time with the bat as he was dismissed for a first-ball duck. However, he compensated that with his brilliance on the field as apart from pulling off a certain six he also secured a brilliant catch when Najibullah Zadran lofted a delivery from Avesh Khan.

His agile fielding efforts contributed significantly to India’s remarkable performance. Further, Kohli’s exploits extended beyond catches, as he executed a sharp throw from long on to run out the dangerous Gulbadin off the very first ball of the first Super Over.

The hero with the bat for India turned out to be captain Rohit Sharma who smashed a brilliant century (121 not out) and roared back in form in grand style. He was well supported by finisher Rinku Singh, who remained unbeaten on 69.
